Trucks and Campers At Auction

If you are looking for a great deal on a camper and truck combo, or may be you need just one of either of the two, you can find some great deals  at auto auctions. Used truck campers can be a bargain, and as they have no moving motor parts, there really is not as much risk as there is when buying a used truck at auction. That is not to say you can not find some really good trucks that are just a few years old, and very reliable.

Adding a truck camper to your pickup can transform it into a comfortable living space similar to an  RV. The trick is to find the type of truck camper that fits your life style, and truck the  best. There will be a few things you need to know when selecting used truck campers. The first piece of information you need is the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVRW) for your pickup. This is how much total weight the truck can handle. The information can usually be found on the doors of most pickup trucks. This is the combined weight of truck and cargo that your truck was designed to haul.

You will know the amount of weight the truck can carry once you subtract the weight of the truck and any passengers. Newer trucks will list the Cargo Weight Rating in the glove box. This gives you the cargo weight you can hold without needing to do any math. You will also need to determine the length of your pickup bed. You will find that many  slide in truck campers are designed to work with an 8 foot bed. You can find some models of used truck campers for sale that are designed for a six foot truck bed.

There are several advantages to using a truck camper instead of a travel trailer or fifth wheel. You can find used truck campers in many different styles with a variety of features. You can get a luxury model which features a large bed, full galley kitchen, and bath or a plain truck camper with just a small bed and fridge. You can pack a surprising number of features into the small frame of a truck camper.

One disadvantage to owning a truck camper is having to load it and unload it from your truck. Travel trailers and fifth wheels are both easer to put on your truck. You will need a method to lift up your truck camper so that the truck can be backed up under it. Most of the time you can do this in around half an hour once you have a little practice.
