Smog Test In San Diego

Life is crazy right now, the economy is uncertain, so of course you want to keep your car running trouble free.  If you have recently bought a used car at a used car auction, you may not know exactly how well the care has been cared for as well.
Well when this happens and your car gets older, there are some things about your car’s maintenance you are going to have to become aware of.  I have learned them from owning a San Diego Smog Check shop

One of those things is when your car needs a smog check. Until your car is officially seven years old, a majority of people won’t think about it.

But beware, if you fail the smog test, what could of been a simple $50 smog test could suddenly become a $300-$400 repair.

When you have to have your car pass the smog check so you can renew the registration, follow these bits of advice to ensure your car passes the smog check.

So before you visit a smog test San Diego only center follow these tips.

First, make every effort to ensure your vehicle is running right.  If you feel the vehicle is not running right, immediately take it to a auto repair shop and have them find out what is wrong.  Then fix it, prior to a smog test.

Second, an easy but necessary tip, take a drive.  Remember to pass the smog test, your vehicle needs to be efficient at burning fuel with as little smog emissions as possible. When you don’t take the time to warm up the car, these cause the car not to have the correct combustion.  If that happens, you stand a chance of failing.  So just drive it for 10-15 miles and it will be running optimally when you take it in.

Third, try to use fuel additives. This you do when you are filling your auto up with gas.  You just add it to the gas tank. What’s going to happen is this gets the emission levels lower because it cleans the intake of your car and exhaust paths. This gives the fuel and air the ability to flow freely.

Fourth, your tires need to be inflated to the proper pressure.  This little tip will help your vehicle drive with greater stability and accuracy during the smog test.  This improves the overall emissions output by helping the engine maintain a steady load.

Finally, have your oil changed. If the oil in your car does need to be changed and is contaminated; this can be a cause of failure when you take it for a smog test. Contaminated oils are high in hydrocarbons and that could cause the failed test.

Follow our guidelines and tips and you are going to have a good chance of passing the smog check with flying colors.  Take it from my experience running a San Diego auto repair service shop.

Now you have the right car, but you have to do a few more simple tasks to squeeze out every last bit of gas. One sure fire solution is to maintain a highway speed of 55 mph. The rule that is followed is for each 10 mph over the 55 mph your cars aerodynamic drag will reduce you fuel efficiency by around 5 miles per gallon (mpg). This test was done by Consumer Reports on a Toyota Camry model. More fuel-saving tips:

Gas Saving Myths:

  1. Buying premium gas when your car requires only regular will not make a noticeable difference in your fuel efficiency.
  2. Dirty air filters often get blamed for reducing mileage, but they this has been noted as minimal, but a dirty air filter can cause sluggish acceleration.
  3. Running with your A/C shows minimal reduction, compared to the drag of open windows on an automobile.
  4. Another myth is to buy fuel first thing in the morning. The idea is that when temperatures are cooler, the gasoline coming from the pump is denser, so you’ll get more for your money, but in reality the actual temperature of gas coming from the pump nozzle doesn’t change during the day, you’ll likely get no savings with an early fill-up.
